I was diagnosed with chronic depression (they'll do anything to make you take pills for life), I don't deny I had it, but pills don't work magic either, on the contrary.
I remember trying several, fluoxetine (of course) and escilatopram....
They just made me more fucked up than I already was, they gave me a false sense of well-being.
A joint worked better for me and also helped with my anxiety.
Of course, pills and drugs are not the best combination, but to get out I had to stop all that.
Getting out of the hole was not easy, but as a survivor I can say that it is possible to learn to live with it and then leave it in the past.
This writing is a self-investigation.
"Depression is a mental disorder characterised primarily by low mood and feelings of sadness, associated with changes in behaviour, activity level and thinking".
We are faced with symptoms such as the following:
Sadness.
Loss of interest.
Decreased vitality.
Fatigue.
As we can see, correct emotional management is fundamental in these cases.
It is the first ingredient to get out of it, but we come up against the obstacle of lack of interest, which is the main reason that feeds tiredness and lack of vitality.
You can get to the point where you feel absolutely nothing and you think it doesn't matter if you die.
If you have reached that point and you are reading this, let me tell you that it is possible to come out of it and I believe in you.
I've been there too and that's why I tried to go to psychologists and psychiatrists, but again you don't have to look for anything external, you are all you need and with time it is possible.
Every pathology is a mental programme
Look at it this way, it's like if you were a computer and you had installed this program that is so heavy that it won't let you install the games you like.
So you have to uninstall it and give it time (because it's heavy, it takes time).
It is getting lighter and lighter, but it is very necessary to treat yourself with love and respect.
Relearning how to live is complex and consists of so many nuances that you will constantly surprise yourself.
The brain is extremely easy to train
Think of it as a super-powerful tool with which you can achieve your dreams, you just need to know how to train it:
Easy, small, simple goals and a big reward.
Empowering phrases (but let's stop the false positivism, please)
Trust yourself and your process (spoiler: it's not linear)
Gradually increase the difficulty of the achievements (it is ok if from 1 to 100 you reach 5 and go back to 2, sometimes because of your perception it will seem like -6, but remember that your perception can be wrong).
Question your perception (since everything seems black and white, start questioning what you believe to be true).
Raise the possibility of the ideal happening.
Recognise the depressive habit and eliminate it at all costs, when you notice that you are falling into the thought, distract yourself and do something else, writing or some artistic activity is a great help.
Have different means of expression, notice how expressing it takes it out and there is less of it in you.
Base: stop drugs/pills, have a good diet, good circadian rhythm, exercise (it took me 3 years to get all these basics, but if I could do it, so can you).
Good emotional management
I hope this great list will inspire and motivate anyone who needs it.
Personally, I have always found it difficult to maintain a routine and obsessing for a while helped me in a way to create the habit.
I forced myself and began to take responsibility for creating a life in which I was happy.
There have been times when I've added two habits and then gone back to square one, other times when, despite the improvements, I didn't feel I was doing it right.
Don't think, just take action.
That's why it's better to take it one step at a time
Until you have 1 habit as an automatic, don't add any more, focus on automating that habit and then move on.
Going slow but steady is better than going fast and losing your way.
The best thing to do is to treat yourself as your best friend, practice self-compassion and build self-esteem.
I hope this has at least motivated you and helped you get out of bed.
