Making a change in our lives is relatively easy.
However, if we lack the necessary information, it can lead to confusion, anxiety, resistance, frustration or false starts.
Letting go of old habits and adopting more useful and motivating ones can be confusing.
Change or transformation is an individual process that starts with ourselves, so we are the main drivers of our change.
However, it is often the case that our own beliefs or fear of change can interfere with the life change we envision.
Steps to follow
For change to happen, the following steps are essential: vision, skills, incentives, resources and an ACTION plan.
In the absence of vision, there is confusion.
If skills are lacking, there may be anxiety.
If there are no incentives or short-term goals, there is resistance.
If resources are lacking, we may feel frustrated.
If there is no action plan, it is a false start.
In all cases, change does not happen because one or more ingredients are missing.
If you are determined to change, here are the steps you need to take.
*Get to know yourself
When it comes to starting a new life, the first step is to know yourself.
Know what you want, what qualities you have and where you want to go.
The first step to change is self-reflection and self-awareness, questioning and assessing priorities.
*Find your purpose in life
Self-awareness is key to finding out what your purpose in life is.
Having a purpose in life is key because it keeps you motivated, it is the force that keeps you moving and it is the backbone of your daily life.
However, change is not just about visualising your purpose, it is also about enjoying the journey as you find it, which is why it is important to enjoy the constant or make it more palatable.
*Do it for yourself
In order to do the above effectively, it is necessary to connect with yourself, which is why it is so useful to know yourself in depth.
Often we think we want to change, but it is the opinion of others that influences us to believe that what they impose on us is what we want.
The goals to be pursued must be genuine, otherwise it will be difficult to change.
*Plan the change
Once we are clear about our desire to change and we know what we want to change, it is necessary to plan the change.
If possible, write it down on paper as it is easier to visualise and requires less effort to remember when we need it.
Small sub-goals should be set and dated.
It is not enough to set long term goals, we also need to consider short term goals, this is the way to keep us motivated during the change process and not to forget our commitment, these short term goals help to make the process more appealing.
*Get out of your comfort zone
Other aspects such as getting out of the comfort zone, leaving the comfortable and routine where we feel safe, not being afraid of uncertainty and analysing the risks in a calm and analytical way.
Not comparing yourself to others and being aware that it is not a linear process will help you to self-motivate on those low days, accepting that we can fail is also positive.
This does not mean that we should give up when things do not go our way, but that we should be prepared to overcome and get up as soon as possible after a fall.
Nor should you listen to everyone else's opinions.
Some people tend to project their own fears onto you
If someone doesn't have the will to change, they probably don't believe you can.
However, there are many times when it is difficult to understand what is going wrong in the process.
I am sharing what has worked for me in the hope that it will work for you.
