Astrology, in its broadest sense, is a set of traditions and beliefs which hold that it is possible to discern or construct meaning from celestial events and constellations by interpreting their correlation with earthly events.
This parallelism is used as a method of divination and inferring the character of people.
Astrology has used the concept of the classical elements from ancient times to the present day.
In Western astrology and Hindu astrology there are four elements: Fire, Earth, Air and Water.
Each of the four elements is associated with 3 signs of the zodiac, which are always at 120° to each other on the ecliptic, so they are said to be in trine.
Fire - Aries; - Leo; - Sagittarius; hot, dry, fiery
Earth - Taurus; - Virgo; - Capricorn; heavy, cold, dry
Air - Gemini; - Libra; - Libra; - Aquarius; light, hot, humid
Water - Cancer; - Scorpio; - Pisces; cold, damp, soft
Triplicities by season:
Spring (humid, warm): Air - Aries, Taurus, Gemini
Summer (hot, dry): Fire - Cancer, Leo, Virgo
Autumn (dry, cold): Earth - Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius
Winter (cold, wet): Water - Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces
The modalities of the signs in astrology are the qualities attributed to each sign: fixed, cardinal or mutable. This discipline assigns significant characteristics to these particularities.
CARDINAL:
These are the signs found at the four extremes of the points known as equinoxes and solstices of the zodiacal circle.
Therefore, they all have the quality of pioneers and the tendency to start projects and try new things.
FIXED:
After the change of seasons, the weather stabilises and everything becomes more peaceful. This is the analogy with Fixed signs. They are stubborn, persistent and predictable.
Fearful of the unexpected, or at least of deviating from the pattern they have mentally set, they usually have great willpower, but will find it more difficult to adapt.
MUTABLES:
They have the instability that characterises the period between two seasons.
Being a little here and a little there, they have learned to adapt and sail with the wind.
They are intelligent and adaptable, able to put things in perspective and give problems the right importance, and they tend to find change and novelty.
